Kathmandu: In light of recent floods, landslides, and water contamination, the Ministry of Health and Population held an emergency meeting on Wednesday to strategize measures to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. The meeting, led by Health Minister Pradip Paudel, included representatives from all levels of government and officials from the Ministry of Water Supply.
Minister Paudel highlighted the urgent need for preparedness to combat potential outbreaks of diseases like diarrhea, cholera, and dengue due to the pollution of water sources. He praised the efforts of health workers during the disaster and urged continued commitment to protect citizens from health hazards.
The meeting emphasized collaboration between the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Water Supply, and local governments to ensure the distribution of clean drinking water and prevent disease spread. Special health teams will be deployed to affected areas, and water purification materials will be distributed to maintain clean water supplies.
Lalitpur Mayor Chiri Babu Maharjan noted the city's efforts to supply purified drinking water via tankers. Health Ministry Secretary Dr. Roshan Pokharel pledged further action to send health equipment and create awareness to prevent infectious diseases in affected areas.
